JEWEL BOX
Guatemala City, Spring 2015

A Jewel Box is a space that connects us with the cycles of nature through the elements.

The goal of the Jewel Box Project is to create harmonious living spaces for an emerging generation of creators. The first edition of the Jewel Box Project was constructed in Guatemala City, Guatemala on a 1,400 sqft rooftop. Clear Studios designed and built this project during a three month residency. Living on the project site, they built the structure with a small team of local craftsmen. Jewel Box is mindful about how it consumes resources and utilizes off-grid and passive solutions. Jewel Box intends to activate the inhabitant’s relationship to the natural cycles of our Earth by incorporating these elements into the design: earth (vertical gardens), water (rainwater catchment), air (operable windows for cross-ventilation) , and fire/sun (electricity through solar panels).

We see the potential for architecture to heal, for architecture to act as an intermediary between human need and the cycles of nature.
The Jewel Box Project is an exploration into this. The second edition is in its design phase in New York, USA.
